My first infographic, how to make it exceptional
-
Hi,
I'm creating an infographic for nlpca.com
We're thinking of doing it on "What is NLP?" This is the most common question, and "What is NLP" it's a small but good search term
There's not a lot of statistics if we do "What is NLP?", but there are drawings about the different parts of NLP.
What recommendations do you have? I still need to go through all of our competitors' info and look at the content of competitors and make sure we've got the right topic
Thanks.

I agree with Anthony. This is a great topic. I went to nlpca.com and it wasn't until 2/3 of the way down the page that I actually read what NLP stands for.
Granted, your target demographic may not be as naive, but a great infographic right off the bat would be a great opportunity to make it clear for people like me.
I don't have any advice for making it spectacular, but you are on a great path. Let us know when you finish because I would love to see it.

Content selection is obviously really important. I think if you choose your content well, you can definitely market it to other niche NLP websites. Because of the nature of the topic, I wouldn't expect it to blow up huge on a social media or social bookmarking website, but you should be able to get some good, high-quality links from relevant, niche websites, which is by and large the name of the game.
I think you can get even more mileage out of infographic linkbuilding if you explore NLP as it related to different topics: management training, specific self-help areas, etc. This can help you diversify the type of websites that you can realistically get a link from.
For your first foray into infographic linkbuilding, however, I think you're headed in the right direction.

Making the most of a good back link
Hi Guys. We recently acquired a really good backlink from a charity site that has high DA. 71/100 on Open site explorer. I understand traffic is also a key component in a backlinks value, not just the DA. Is it worth spending time and energy (we don't have much as it's the lead up to Christmas) encouraging people onto the blog post to hopefully get some extra traffic through that link? And more generally, how much does traffic effect the value of link? Any insights would be greatly appreciated 🙂 Isaac.

Content optimisation or Link Building first? Small clients & small budgets
Hi there. Apologies in advance for this long message! I have come from a large client-side SEO position where I had a small team of online marketers to assist in our SEO efforts. The effect was that we were able to work on link building and onsite optimisation at the same time and obviously give it 100% of our attention (and the website had very high DA and Trust). I have recently moved to a small agency where I am the sole SEO-Guy and my clients are small. I typically have no more than 8 hours to spend per month on all aspects of SEO (analysis, reporting, link building and content optimisation) per client and I have to strictly adhere to this. To make matters more difficult, these clients typically have weak back-link profiles (low in number and quality and all pointing to the home page) and poorly optimised content (which contributes to low DA & PR). I went through my first 'monthly process' for a particular client in September and focused my 8 hours on optimising the site content for a particular section of the website. This involved optimising meta titles & descriptions, body content and images for our chosen keywords. I didn't focus on links at all. I published the changes to the site on 23rd September. When I look at my rankings as of 6th October, one keyword in particular has dropped by 28 places (from 11 to 39) which seems excessive to me. In my mind, the changes I made were small, so this drop concerns me. The particular URL was ranking in position 11 for a keyword that I subsequently targeted to another (more relevant) page in the site. Both pages have the same MR, PA and links etc. I think I may have effectively cannibalised the keyword and to make matters worse, the new page isn't even in the top 50! Both pages are in the Google Index. So, this is my longwinded way of asking for your opinion on whether other SEOs in my position would recommend spending time on building the back link profile to strengthen DA and PR of deeper pages before you start making content optimisations (given I am unable to do them at the same time). It's tricky with small clients as they don't necessarily understand how long these things can take. Cheers! Laurie

Illegible font on infographics?
I noticed that some infographics have really small font. I think that the intent is to make the font small so that people who see the infographic (on a blog that embeds it) have to squint and then are compelled to click on the image to be redirected to the owner's website. Often bloggers post the smaller size to fit on their blog. Do you think this is a good practice and is aiming for the image link better/worse than a just a text link e.g. Infographic courtesy of Acme Co. Thanks!

Make a new page or more links to existing page for 2nd keyword?
We have a page optimized for 'blue widgets'. We rank in organic spot #3 or 4 for that (moves around from week to week). Fairly happy with that. We have another derivative term 'blue widgets small' (example, but it's same format: <original phrase="">+ <single word="">) where we currently rank #6 organic in Google when people search on the 3 word phrase.</single></original> We'd like to rank higher than #6 for the 3 word phrase. Should we: (1) Build a bunch of links with anchor text equal to the 3 word phrase and point to the existing page (which is optimized on-page for the first 2 of the 3 words) or (2) Make a new page optimized for the 3 word phrase and then start building links to it with anchor text equal to the 3 words (and non-cannibalizing variants of the 3 words)? The 2 word phrase is pretty competitive and it has taken us months to get that page to be #3 or 4 organic for that phrase. The 3 word phrase is much less competitive and we don't think it would take that long to make a dedicated page rank higher than #6 for the 3 words. Suggestions? Thanks.

Looking for Excellent Infographic Designers
I'm looking for recommendations for excellent infographic designers. They can be located anywhere, charge hourly or project based...as long as they are fluent in writing English, can show some examples of past work, and charge a reasonable rate, that's all we need. I've looked at Elance and Odesk and Craig's List, but what I really want is a recommendation from someone who has actually used the designer they're recommending and had a great experience. A designer who can do the research and ideation in addition to the actual design would be ideal.

What is an infographic? And how is it used for SEO?
I've heard the term used in some of the webinars hosted on SEOMOZ and tried googling the term with no results. What the heck is this? And how is it good for SEO?
