Advanced Traffic Segmentation?

How to segment the traffic by "primary purpose" and "task completion rate" in Google Analytics? Is there any tool that in your opinion works better than Google Analytics for achieve the same result? Many thanks to everyone that share his experience and tips.

Great! Many thanks Dan!

Hey There. Yes, I generally utilize mainly custom reports and segments for clients, as everyone goals and markets are different. Essentially, just creating the reports won't bring any "results" but our analysis and utilization of the data - takeaways and next step actions are what bring the results
But segmentation is totally essential to analytics: the words of Avinash say it much better than me ---> http://www.kaushik.net/avinash/web-analytics-segments-three-category-recommendations/

Many thanks Dan! These 2 are very good tips!
Have you ever tried this kind of segmentation? If yes with which results?

Hi There
There's two possible ways I can think of you may want to try. Segmenting by landing page or segmenting by keyword/source.
**Landing Page ** - depending on the site, there may be specific pages (like products for ecommerce) that are obviously more purchase based. You can create a segment to show you all traffic that came by way of landing on one of these pages.
Keyword/Source - there are also purchase intent keywords like "buy, for sale, for purchase" etc - you can create a keyword segment which includes all of your purchase intend words - exclude branded terms, "how to" information intent words etc. There may be certain sources that you know are informational - like if you're linked to in a resource etc that's an informational visit - but if your product is in a "top 10 products" list, this referral traffic may be more purchase intent.
So really there's no blanket way to do this. You have to determine what determines the intent of traffic for your site and create segments around those parameters.
Hope that helps!

Does anyone know how to segment the traffic (the visitors) for "primary purpose"?
-
Thank you Jason, the video explain how to segment by "task completion rate".
Unfortunately not how to segment the traffic (the visitors) by "primary purpose".
Is there any way or a best practice to measure this? How we can detect if a customer is coming in our website for more information or for buying (qualitative data) and then put into a segment of Google Analytics to get insights?
-
I have included a Video on how to do just that: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1aCmHYkIsI&feature=youtu.be
I have not seen any better tools for Traffic segmentation mainly because most people use Google Analytics because it is Free. However, be aware that Advance Traffic Segmentation will give you the results you are looking for if the rest of your analytics is set up correctly. Meaning, if you have an ecommerce site that is not being tracked correctly the Traffic Segmentation won't give you the results you are looking for because the information it is pulling from wasn't set up correctly.
I hope that helps.

Advanced reporting for e-commerce
Hi Mozzers, We are looking at expanding our analytical reporting for e-commerce. I want to know more about what customers are doing on the website and how we can interact with them. For example, how many customers make X amount of purchases and what their conversion rate is etc. I've looked at More2 and I know Analytics can give me some of this data but want to know more. Anyone have any software ideas? Thanks, Karl

Large changes in conversions with consistent traffic
Hi Everyone, I am looking for some help, I have just taken over a campaign for a client and we are seeing huge changes in conversion rates overnight. The client is selling a health product and is consistently getting around 1-2k visitors per day. We are getting about 6% of the traffic to the buy page consistently. However, we have found that one day the order process may convert 1/20 of these visitors and another day it could be 1/80. We are only talking about 5-20 sales per day, but I am really confused why one day it can convert so well and another so poorly. The traffic being sent is the same and all other factors are the same (no split testing). There seems to be no logic, the day of the week does not seem to impact, it almost seems random. If anybody has any recommended places to look that would be very helpful as at the moment I am at a loss. Example: Sunday 15th Visitors: 1,279

How ppc affects organic and direct convesions and traffic.
Hi, I was wondering what percentage of organic conversions is related to ppc previous traffic. I mean, when we evaluate the results of a campaign, we take a look at the cost per conversion in analytics for one specific word. Lets say that we know that for PPC campaigns we have the following data Adwords / PPC Visits: 4500 %conversions rate = 1,15% Cost per conversion = $10 ORGANIC Visits: 1300 % conversions rate = 2,10% DIRECT Visitis: 1000 %conversions rate= 2,54% It is obvious that if I cancel the adwords campaign part of the organic and direct traffic will drop too. So, I was wondering if have you ever done this calculation and if you know what percentage of the organic a direct traffic is related with de ppc campaigns. I mean... Let's say... "20% of the ppc traffic will come back to the website as organic traffic or direct traffic", or something like that... Anyone??? Thanks 😄

What is the best way to reduce bounce rate from Pinterest Traffic?
Hi, Our bounce rate is very high on incoming traffic from Pinterest. What can we do to redirect the traffic to more than single product page and/or convert them to sign up for newsletter, etc? Anyone know if there is an average bounce rate from Pinterest traffic? Thanks.

How to find average organic traffic growth rate for ecommerce startup?
Happy Friday Everyone, I have a quick question: I am in the process of crunching some numbers to try and figure out an organic traffic forecast for a client. One of the crucial metrics I can't seem to figure out is traffic rate of growth over the next year or so. The reason this is complicated for me is that I have only ever done this sort of thing for an established business before, and had plenty of past organic traffic data to work with. What I am looking for is a source that could give me a reasonable idea of what kind of growth rates I might expect for a startup with practically no data; I would be perfectly happy with a national average for online retail startups. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Any SEO tips for optimizing / driving traffic to category pages?
Hello! I listened to Adam Audette at Linklove in Boston this month and he spoke a little on creatively linking product pages back to their respective category pages - as it had an effect on the SEO... However, I don't know much about "internal" linking... Any other SEO tips for optimizing / driving traffic to category pages? Thanks!
