Rank English Terms in Swiss Google Google.ch
-
Happy New Year!
I have a .com site that does well on Google.co.uk. But we would like to rank on Google.ch (switzerland) for English terms.
There is a large expat community, living in Switzerland that would benefit from our services.
Any ideas how I can improve organic SEO on the Google.ch SE?
Many thanks!
PM me for website. Otherwise I'll get lots of spam to my client

Thanks Thomas! So canonicals should be self-referencing, if I'm reading that image correctly.

Here's a great post for hreflang and canonicals:

With this image explaning it well:

Amazing, thanks you. Then do I need to add canonical tags as well to the gb-en?
-
With the right setup (which you put), yes indeed. What the HREFLANG does is specify the country that different parts of the site should rank for.
So you'll have site.com/ with hreflang for gb-en and site.com/ch/en/ with hreflang to ch-en. Do note that you'll have to have hreflang for every page. So if you have site.com/blue-widgets and target that to gb-en with hreflang, you'll have site.com/ch/en/blue-widgets targeted with hreflang to ch-en.
Make sense?
It's been a bit since I've done hreflang with canonical tags as well, so definitely look into what is required there.

Will that effect UK searches tho? As it currently ranks well for those people looking from the UK too. It needs to cover both country's and international quires.
I'd assume we make a sub directory:
site.com/ch/en/ targeted with HREFLANG for ch-en.
and
site.com/ targeted with HREFLANG for gb-en.

Hi,
Thanks for your response. Currently it does't have 'subfolders or subdirectories targeted at specific countries and their languages'.
It's something that I will look in to now.
-
Hi there! Does your site have subfolders or subdirectories targeted at your specific countries and their languages? Because the best and right way to do it is with a subfolder like site.com/ch/en/ targeted with HREFLANG for ch-en.
Some links I found that might help - https://www.brightedge.com/blog/seo-for-multiregional-websites/ and http://www.amazeemetrics.com/en/blog/seo-tutorial-geo-targeting-with-hreflang-tag
Hope that helps!

Google My Business - duplicate and previous owner uncooperative
Hi there, One of my SEO clients, a summer camp, is having a problem with their GMB listing. They have two listings: the one they set up, with the correct address and other business info, and the one the previous camp owners set up, with an incorrect NAP. When we try to edit the duplicate listing, we're unable to verify that we own it because it's connected to the previous owner's phone number. They've passed away and their sons are now the contact, but they're not interested in helping out. Any suggestions on how to close the duplicate listing without being able to verify that it's your own business? Thanks, Susannah

Removing Unverified Listing From Google
We have an old unverified listing that has our information on it, but we can't get it off google. I told them months ago it was closed, and it is marked as closed in Google...but it still shows up. Moz Local is telling me this is an inconsistency that hurts our local rankings. I went to delete the page from our Google Business/Place, but if I did that, the warning said that I would just not have access to the page, and that the listing would still show up on google. How do I permanently get rid of those thing, so it's not longer an inconsistent listing? Ruben

Google MyBusiness Profile Pictures not Showing
Can someone tell me why some search profiles in maps don't show the profile image? Meaning the business has pictures in their profiles, including their main profile, its at 100% completion and the audience is not age restricted and the images still don't show? Attached is an example (not my clients but you can see what happens) I appreciate any ideas! Thanks iIpSPaB

Google Places - Should my category choice be manual keywords or selected from default list
Hi All, I have a carpet cleaner hire business and am new to google places. I have been doing my listing for it but can't seem to work out whether I should choose one of the default choices in the categories and leave it as that (in my case it would be "carpet cleaning services" or should I manually type some keywords as well as this ? So for instance, I choose the default - carpet cleaning services but also manually type in "carpet cleaner hire" , floor scrubber hire etc etc as other categories Any advice or if someone could point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. thanks Pete

Any ranking success with Moz Local?
In the last three months, our Tampa office has gone from a listing score of 2% to 72% and is considerably higher than everyone else on the first page for Moz Local...but we are on the 13th page! We have not improved at all, even though our score has dramatically. I know that the listing is only a part of the local equation, but it just a little shocking to me we haven't moved up even one page. Anyone have any success with this tool that translated to increased rankings for local? If so, how long did it take you to see results? Thanks, Ruben

Google+ Local and a Google+ Company Page
I have an established G+ company page but also want a G+ Local listing in order to appear on Google maps. The company does have a physical address, phone number etc. to qualify for a G+ Local listing. No current local listing exists to claim. Should I: a) Switch the currrent G+ company page to be a G+ Local page; or b) Create a new G+ Local page and keep the G+ company page; or c) Ignore G+ Local and create the listing through Google Places Thanks

'People Also Searched for' appears on some but not all local businesses, why? (Google Local Knowledge Panel)
I have a client who does not want the 'People Also Searched for' section on the Google Local Knowledge Panel to appear. I informed her that this is a standard part of the search presentation and that we cannot change. She then pointed out that the 'People also searched for' does not appear on her competitors' Google Local Knowledge Panels. (See the attachment for comparison) This raises a couple of questions: Why are the local businesses different? Can I change the content of her panel? I would appreciate any feedback. google-local.jpg
