Local Competition Analysis
-
Hi Mozzers,
I've been mainly B2B focused, and am used to estimating the amount of work necessary to best competition for organic results, but now I have a local client.
I need a method to estimate the amount of work necessary to get listed in the one-box for my chosen queries.
Can someone point me in the right direction? Any help appreciated.

Hi Wayne, There are some good tools out there for what you want to do, but I need to let you know that getting a one box result is not generally a Local SEO goal. Google seldom displays a single result for common queries. In general, what you want is to go for the highest ranking in the local results (the grey pinned results) whether Google is displaying 2, 3 or 7 results for a given query. My favorite local search competitive analysis tool is from 51 Blocks, and it's free: http://www.51blocks.com/online-marketing-tools/free-local-analysis/ It's really nice. You may also want to check out the suite of tools offered by Whitespark.ca, especially when it comes to the art of citation building for local businesses. So, the job here is to set common goals (a high local ranking) for specific terms and then create a plan that will typically incorporate a mix of on-page work and off-page citation creation, review acquisition and other factors. Hope this helps!

Hi Wayne,
I'm going through older questions and just ran across this one. I'm not sure that it's even called the one box anymore. I'm going to ask Miriam to jump in here with some tips and links for you that'll help you with what's current in local.

Process is fairly similar... search for your target keywords and do competitor research (check their backlinks and on page optimization). This will let you know how difficult it may be to rank for a specific keyword.
In general, local business rankings can be greatly improved with proper on-page optimization, places page optimization and being submitted to all the major business directories (check out yext.com and getlisted.org)
Best of luck!
Oleg

How to get local search volumes?
Hi Guys, I want to get search volumes for "carpet cleaning" for certain areas in Sydney, Australia. I'm using this process: Choose to ‘Search for new keyword and ad group ideas’. Enter the main keywords regarding your product / service Remove any default country targeting Specify your chosen location (s) by targeting specific cities / regions Click to ‘Get ideas’ The problem is none of the areas, even popular ones (like north sydney, surry hills, newtown, manly) are appearing and Google keyword tool, no matches. Is there any other tools or sources of data i can use to get accurate search volumes for these areas? Any recommendations would be very much appreciated. Cheers

Do Google webmaster tool and other backlinks analysis tool ignore the disavow data ?
Hello, Lots of site i have disavow so if i download backlinks of my site from google webmaster so google will ignore the disavow data and give me backlinks other than disavow data? Same if i use backlink tools like moz or semrush or ahref etc for checking backlinks of my site or competitor site so will this tool ignore the disavow data? If such tools not aware of disavow then it is worthless to check competitor links? Thanks! dev

Bad performance for low competition term (Take two)
Hi all! I asked the question below a little while back and got some great responses. Most said that the link profile needed A LOT of work. This got me thinking. As it is quite a low competition term, and I have control over a few of its inbound links, would it be easier to move to a new domain and start again? That is, no 301, just move the site and update it in WMT? Hi everybody. I've been working on this page for some time, http://www.double-glazing-forum.com/anglian-windows.aspx. Until several months ago, it ranked really well for the terms 'Anglian windows' and 'Anglian windows reviews'. However, following a Google update it tanked and has got worse ever since. Here's what I've done to try and fix it. Added 800 words of unique copy Added YouTube videos Replaced scraped press releases with unique descriptions that link to the source Analysed the backlink profile and uploaded a disavow file containing all bad links Contacted webmaster to remove them where possible Getting a bit low on ideas now, so any help would be great!

Local TLD Domain and languages.
Hello all, I have a local tld domain in spanish for .es. Now i want to translate the site content to english and german. What do you advice? 1.1 www.domainname.es/en/ and www.domainname.es/de/ 1.2 en.domainname.es and de.domainname.es Or buy a new .com domain and set it like this: 2.1. www.domainname.com and www.domainname.com/de (english will be main language) 2.2. en.domainname.com and de.domainname.com Or the last option ( the one i think it's better) Local TLDs 3.1 www.domainame.es , www.domainname.co.uk , and domainname.de In this last case , the domain name is KW + Brand , should i also translate the KW? For example: www.heladosolimpia.es , www.icecreamolimpia.co.uk Thanks for your help.

Google Local oddity
So I spotted something a little weird... one of my client's Google Local placements in blended results has the domain name - complete with the .com extension appearing where the business name typically appears: Businessxyz.com www. businessxyz .com of Google reviews Has anyone seen this? I setup their Google Places account quite some time ago and used the business name - not the url. I also setup their Google+ and Local page - using the name. None of the page titles on the website contain the url. I simply can not pinpoint where G is pulling this from or why for that matter. All competitors are appearing with business name - only my client has the domain name visible for the particular local search query. Any ideas?

Keyword Research Tool For Local Customers
Hi all, and thanks in advance for your input. I help mostly small local businesses with SEO and other IM strategy, but am having a hard time finding a good tool for local seo searches. For instance, I have a smaller plumber that covers Denver, but really wants to market to some of the suburbs. What is a good tool to try to find search volume for "littleton plumbers" or similar searches? By the way Littleton is a suburb of Denver. Thanks again. Chris
