Google images
-
Hi,
I am working on a website with a large number (millions) of images. For the last five months Ihave been trying to get Google Images to crawl and index these images (example page: http://bit.ly/1ePQvyd). I believe I have followed best practice in the design of the page, naming of images etc. Whilst crawlng and indexing of the pages is going reasonably well with the standard crawler, the image bot has only crawled about half a million images and indexed only about 40,000.
Can anyone suggest what I could do to increase this number 100 fold?

Hi Richard,
I'm not a Google Images expert (otherwise I'd offer to help!) but you could check out the companies / individuals listed on Moz's Recommended Providers page. Many are agencies that prefer to work with people on longer retainers, but you may find someone to work with there, or the people listed may be able to point you to a trusted contact who specialises in images.
I haven't heard of people specifically specialising in image search but that doesn't mean those people don't exist, or that you won't find someone who has a lot of experience with image-heavy photography / art websites.
Cheers,
Jane

Hi,
Thanks for those who have offered advice so far.
I am looking an buy the services of an SEO expert with experience in getting vast numbers of images indexed by Google Images. If that is you or you know someone who could help, get in touch.

Thanks,
I think we could sharpen up the title and some other things.
However, we are doing reasonably well with indexing of pages - it's the images that seem to be so slow.
We do have image sitemaps (eg http://bit.ly/RDHmyo) but our experiments show that this is not much help.
This sitemap above was submitted about 14 days ago and has had about 2 million pages indexed but only 5,000 images indexed.
It feels like I have my foot on the hose pipe

Thanks for looking at this.
We are adding sitemaps "slowly" - ie 10 million at a time. eg: http://bit.ly/RDHmyo
This stemap was submitted about 14 days ago and has had about 2 million pages indexed but only 5,000 images indexed.
We will add another this week.
I think you may well be right about crawl budget. I have ensured that the bots are almost exclusively focused on these pages (well over 90% of crawls are of these pages). I am assuming that the only way t increase budget is to increase authority. Is that right?

I don't know about a 100-fold increase, but as Martijn said, an image sitemap will certainly help. You can often build images into the standard sitemap, but with so many images, you are best keeping these separate.
Something else I would look to do, is change the page Title structure. Currently, this says:
"The sky begins to lighten during morning twilight behind a suspension tower of the Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Memorial Bridge. - DYFXET | Alamy"There is no mention here of photography, royalty free, stock images, etc.
I would be cutting the description of the image down so it looked something like this:
"The sky begins to lighten during morning twilight behind a suspension tower... Royalty free stock photography | Alamy"
Look at others who do well in stock image searches (Shutterstock, 123rf, etc.) and match some of what they do.

Hi Richard,
Have you tried submitting image sitemap files to both Google Webmaster Tools as Bing Webmaster Tools. It's probably related to your crawl budget that Google is not crawling the millions of images on your site. That's why they maybe also can't found more than these pages.

How to reverse declining Google rankings?
We have a long established business since 2004 and have been fortunate that having been one of the original companies in our industry, we have always enjoyed strong Google rankings. Unfortunately, these have been steadily declining over the past couple of years and a comparison of August to date against the equivalent period last year has seen a 20% drop in traffic from Google. We don't believe that it is being caused by a penalty and rather is the result of some strong players entering our market and tightening their focus which has caused us to take a dip in rankings. We are guilty of being complacent in our SEO - largely due to not knowing what to do and being scared to touch it when it was working in case we broke it! - but now it's time to fight back. We still have a strong site, good traffic levels and a strong product offering. We have knowledge of SEO and resources in house, but are not experts by any means. Our current plan is to: perform a technical site audit, fixing the issues highlighted by the Moz Pro Software put strong emphasis on our blog, writing daily about the latest news and events in our industry provide weekly content articles which are more in depth than the daily blog articles and which will be of interest to our community undertake surveys and publish infographics and statistics with the hope of being picked up in national newspapers Are there any key elements that we are missing out in this plan, or is that it in a nutshell? Any help and advice is greatly appreciated.

Hide Aggregation from Google?
Google isn't a fan of aggregation, but sometimes it is a good way to fill out content when you cannot cover every news story there is. What I'm wondering is if anyone has continued to do any form of aggregation based on a category and hide that url from Google. Example: example.com/industry-news/ -- is where you'd post aggregation stories but you block robots from crawling that. We wouldn't be doing this for search value just value to our readers. Thoughts?

Google is displaying wrong address
I have a client whose Google Places listing is not showing correctly. We have control of the page, and have the address verified by postcard. Yet when we view the listing it shows a totally different address that is miles away and on a totally different street. We have relogged into manage the business listing and all of the info is correct. We dragged the marker and submitted it to them that they had things wrong and left a note with the right address. Why would this happen and how can we fix it? Right now they rank highly but with a blatantly wrong address.

How do you find synonyms for a word in Google?
Hi, How would you go about finding a connection between words in the eyes of Google? So for example if I enter ~shoes -shoes I get a few things turn up in bold. Boots is one which makes sense and I would assume Google makes a connection between the words so using both in content would help semantically. BUT the other word it bolds is Store - this is where I get lost why would it make this connection unless Google is taking actual query data from users and making a different type of connection between words. How do you find a solid connection between words?

Multiple Google+ Local (Google Place) under one email address
As a automotive dealership group, we have 15+ business listings set up under one Google+ local account. Google+ Local (Google Places) offers the ability to upload a data file for 10+ listings, so we've kept all listings under one login for efficiency. Is there any specific local SEO benefit or any general benefit at all to having each business listing set up under their own separate email address?

Getting a site to rank in both google.com and google.co.uk
I have a client who runs a yacht delivery company. He gets business from the US and the UK but due to the nature of his business, he isn't really based anywhere except in the middle of the ocean somewhere! His site is hosted in the US, and it's a .com. I haven't set any geographical targeting in webmaster tools either. We're starting to get some rankings in google US, but very little in google UK. It's a small site anyway, and he'd prefer not to have too much content on the site saying he's UK based as he's not really based anywhere. Any ideas on how best to approach this?
