HELP! IE secure page display issue on new live site
-
For some reason IE 7, 8, & 9 do not display the following page: https://www.jwsuretybonds.com/protools.htm
All they show is the Norton seal. It shows properly in all other browsers without issue (including IE 10+), but the earlier versions flash the page for a split second, then hides everything.
Can someone shed some light on this? This is a new live site we just launched minutes ago and these browsers account for 12% of our overall traffic.
UGH I hate you microsoft!!!
Thanks all

you are also using Apache 2.2 instead of 2.4
http://httpd.apache.org/docs/current/ssl/ssl_howto.html
big pic of Apache 2.2 decline

you're not running updated software on your server at all I would start by doing that. Then I would tackle the problems at hand most likely there connected.
I hope this is been of help,

Update WordPress
your host contegix should not have any trouble. Helping you fix this problem long as the company that sold you the SSL.
I see that you are using a older version of WordPress 3.6 that is pretty old considering where at 3.9.1 now
Please update your WordPress installation so that we can rule out bugs that have probably caused issues like this.
Two things you can do to make this easier use a CDN to employ the SSL
Or use couldproxy.sucuri.net
I would look at using a security oriented hosting provider that will be more hands-on for updates.
I run Firehost and simply submitted one ticket in the beginning asking them to update my WordPress plug-ins as well as WordPress itself they have done so without issue to this day.
I found it by far the easiest way to implement SSL Certs is through a content delivery network but you might find it easier to do it another way. I hope this is of help.
Below is an outline of what your site is running I also added a link but I do not know if you are not a member if it will show you what I could see so I pasted it below.
Sincerely, Thomas

I removed the Norton seal code and now it's displaying properly!!!
Any idea why the Verisign code would break it?
-
When I remove Google's re-marketing script, it only displays code from Norton

Thanks for the response Khem!
I added the meta code, but it didn't make a difference.
I may have found another piece of the puzzle. When I do a view source in IE, I get the following:

First off you don't need to worry about the IE, most of the people have stopped using IE only because these issues. Check the following Browser Statistics and Trends
2014 (April)
Chrome 58.4%
IE - 9.4%
FF - 25.0%
Sarari - 4.0 %
Though, if you're still concerned about your website IE compatibility, you might need to use some IE hacks as you would be using some attributes or features which IE doesn't support.
I found a solution to a problem wihich is something similar to your issue:
"Modernizr can help, especially if you're using newer things like html5 and css3. Another thing that can help is boilerplate code, I personally like the html5reset.
One particular thing from that is going to help you a lot: if I look at your site in IE it says it goes into Quirks mode, making IE7, 8, and 9 behave... well... quirky
Place the following meta tag in your head section to improve things for IE:
<metahttp-equiv="x-ua-compatible"content="ie=edge,chrome=1"></metahttp-equiv="x-ua-compatible"content="ie=edge,chrome=1">
You can see what "Browser Mode" and "Document Mode" IE is running in by bringing up the developer toolbar (F12), you can tweak it temporarily for your browsing session to see what happens if document mode is "IE9 standards"."

How to export Wordpress comments ONLY to a new domain
Hi Guys, We have a bit of situation here. We have a website (let's say it is www.oldsite.com) where we had more than 2000 posts. There arose a need whereby we had to move some 60-70 posts from this oldsite.com to another domain of ours (www.newsite.com). So, here is what we did: Move those 60-70 posts manually from oldsite.com to newsite.com Did a 301 redirect of each of those 60-70 posts from oldsite.com to newsite.com. Google has now started to rank the posts from the newsite.com for this. That's all good till now. Now, here comes the situation. We also want to move the comments from some of those posts of oldsite.com (some 10-12 posts out of those 60-70) to the respective posts of newsite.com. How do we do that? Do note that we are pretty comfortable with databases and to some extent PHP. Please help.

What To Do When Improved Site Speed & Layout Result In Higher Bounce Rates & Lower Time On Site
We launched a new Bootstrap 3.0 site template 2 weeks ago. The site loads 5x faster and has a much improved layout (utilizing most common above the fold recommendations ). It's only been two weeks, but our bounce rate has increased 5-10% and our avg time on site decreased by 10-18%. Here is the page for one of our most common products so you can see the general experience: <a>http://www.jwsuretybonds.com/surety-bonds/commercial-bonds/auto_dealer_bond.htm</a> (here is the old version: <a>http://199.119.123.134/surety-bonds/commercial-bonds/auto_dealer_bond.htm</a>) We spent two months implementing the new design and working on a speedy load time. We had anticipated a drastic improvement, not mild downturn in user behavior. I'm hopeful that the Analytics metrics aren't showing the true picture on the keywords we care about (can't see anymore due to "Not Provided" listed as most keywords now. Argh!) and perhaps some of the more important/accurate user behavior metrics that we can't see are improving. We know our industry and our clients needs VERY well. We THOUGHT our new content/layout was perfect so it will be tough for us to try to make improvements at this point. We believe our best plan of action now is to add more content on each page and A/B test it along with other subtle changes. The problem is that our new content is very concise and hits on all of the primary visitor intentions, so additions of content could be redundant and making concise answers more "fluffy", which is what we tried to get away from. What do you think? Is there reason for panic? What would your plan of attack be if your "sure shot" new design didn't provide the improvements you "knew" it would? 🙂

Existing URL structure and how to handle new pages before migration
Hi there! Currently, our site uses underscores "_" within the url structure. We are moving to Wordpress soon (the site is currently static html) but it will be a couple of months before the migration. Here is an example of the current structure: www.oldsitestructure.com/about_us/success_stories/custom_vinyl_banners When we do change, our url structure will have hyphen's "-" to separate terms, so the preferred new structure will be: www.oldsitestructure.com/about-us/success-stories/custom-vinyl-banners The entire site (with the exception of our Wordpress blog) currently uses the old structure. We have about 10 - 15 pages we will add before our migration, my question is: Should we use the preferred url structure starting NOW or stick with the old one? And set up 301 redirects are part of the migration process? Many thanks!

How to bounce back after a new url & new site design?
About a month ago, my company changed domains (from the long-established www.imageworksstudio.com to the new www.imageworkscreative.com) and also did a complete overhaul of our site. We tried to do everything necessary to keep Google happy as we went through this change, but we've suffered a drastic loss of both rankings and traffic. I know that can happen as a result of a redesign AND as a result of a new domain, but I'm wondering how long you would expect it to take before we bounced back and also, what can we do in the meantime to improve?

SEO page length 4500+ words
I have read varying discussions on this... some say it is good or rather it does not really matter (as long as not stuffed with keywords) and some say more than 1000+ words is bad! I have a travel site and I want to add an historical page about the zone. It is very interesting (very organic, not written for SEO purposes as such). It adds flavor and details to a site that is really all about sales. Does anyone have an opinion whether this is detrimental to SEO or not?

Duplicate content issue
I have recently built a site that has a main page intended to rank for national coverage. This site also has a number of pages targeted at local searches, these pages are slight variations of each other with town specific keywords. Does anyone know if google will see this as spam and quarantine my site from ranking? Thanks

Spammy page titles and the consequences
Hiya Mozzers! A pal who works in SEO has suggested I add the following type <title>tag structure to my pages:<br /><br />Bars in New York - Bars New York [no brand name]</p> <p>Pizzas in New York - Pizzas New York [no brand name]</p> <p>Firstly, I think this looks spammy, secondly, can't understand the logic of both combinations, thirdly, my understanding is brand name lessens importance of keyphrases, but it's still important from a branding point of view.</p> <p>Fourthly, is this sustainable? I mean, Google could identify this as spammy in the future, with penalty, no? Any feedback on these points would be very useful.</p> <p>Also, he said that I should play around with title tags on an ongoing basis, but I haven't changed any single title tag more than once/6 months for fear of being flagged for manipulative SEO practice by Google. Guidance here would be great as well.</p> <p>Thanking you in advance, Luke</p></title>
