Attempts to fix MOZ recommended issues resulted in drastic ranking drop.
-
I have a website built in SquareSpace. https://www.ruffhaus.com/
I recently started working with MOZ to track and improve organic SEO. After my initial site crawl, search visibility was reported at a waping 2.38%. Moz showed several critical crawler issues. Most were redirect, 4xx and long URL. So I started working on fixing the redirect and 4xx issues first. I thought this was a good thing. But now my already sad search visibility has dropped to .07% (-95.97%!). I also went from #1 on keyword, brand implementation plan (and 3 variations), to #27. What?
Wondering where I went wrong and how to remedy?
This is all new to me so I am sure I'm not providing all the info you need to answer my question. Hoping providing the site URL will help. Fire away!

Thanks so much for the follow up question! I don’t have a specific frequency or timeline I can provide however, you can use Mozcast (http://mozcast.com/) as a resource to help determine how turbulent Google SERPS are for any given day. As far as changing your keywords in your Campaign, that would really be up to your discretion. Keep in mind though, that any time you add keywords to your Campaign, data won’t populate for those keywords until the following Campaign update. If you add or remove keywords between each update, you may see significant fluctuations in your Search Visibility, too.

Thanks for the additional tips Meghan. I'll try those to see if I can bring my heart rate down from the initial panic
When you say the fluctuations normalize pretty quickley... what time frame are we talking about?
Also, should I avoid changing keywords in MOZ? or could you tell me a frequency maybe?

Thanks Don, I do understand that concept. I just have this feeling I did something wrong when I was making those fix suggestions. It was a shocker to see that number drop. It has only been about a week so I'll try not to panic

Hi RuffHaus,
Search visibility is a combination of your tracked keywords and where they rank on google, not your complete search visibility on google.
What i mean is if you only track 1 keyword and it has a number 1 position on google Moz will show your search visibility as 100% the more keywords you add that do not rank will lower your search visibility ranking. So if you have 10 keywords tracked an 1 ranks #1 on google but none of the other keywords rank at all your search visibility will be 10%.
Squarespace has some limited ability for technical seo but it is real hard with that platform to optimize completely as you are limited to what you can do.
Thanks,
Don Silvernail

We recently switched from HTTP to HTTPS and we are having crawling issues!
We switched our website from HTTP to HTTPS and we started to get an email from Moz about the robots.txt being unable to crawl our website. The website is hosted through wordpress but we haven't had any issues until we switched. We have no idea what to do or even what the problem is! If you have had a similar problem and fixed it, we need your help! Thank you.

Why do ignored crawl issues still count as issues?
I use Cloudflare, so I can't avoid the Crawl Error for "Pages with no Meta Noindex" because of the way Cloudflare protects email addresses from harvesting (it creates a new page that has no meta noindex values). I marked this issue as "ignore" because there's nothing I can do about it, and it doesn't really affect my site's performance from an SEO standpoint. But even marked as ignore, it is still included in my site crawl issues count. Of course, I want to see that issues count drop to zero, but that can't happen if the ignored issues are counted. I don't want mark it fixed, because technically it's not fixed. KwPld

I would like to track 6 competitors for a new client, maybe short term, maybe long term. Can I set up 2 Moz Campaigns for the same client using the same keywords only with different competitors?

Moz health check for newbies
Hi I'm on the free trial, I'm finding it really useful. since I was 16 (16years ago) all I've done is cook. After 3 weeks of Moz I feel like I'm or the way to marketing my business instead of having others tell me how to do it. A while back I used to use SEO freelancers to buff my site, but recently I realized that I was not doing enough to promote my business myself, I was trying to pay others to do it for me. I goggled Soe and marketing, of course I found Moz while doing so! The content is exceptional and really goes in depth and we are now coming up with a new content strategy! The problem is that I have this gut feeling that The moz product is worth the money it asks for as I can easily identify the issues or opportunities my site has, I still feel that I lack the competence to use moz to its full potential! Is there an option to have someone skpe me and give me some tips or in sites with in my own campaign? I've spent a lot of time reading the blog content and watching the videos but this all seams to focus on how to get results but not so much on how to use the Moz console/dashboard. I've probably just missed a hole bunch of content but if not do Moz have and option to help set up your Moz analytic and Research so you can get the most relevant info to you? Any help is most welcome Kind regards Ben Horle SussexChef.com

Campaign Keywords Vs. Rank Tracker
Hi Mozzers, Was just wondering what the difference between the two tools are, and why they have independent keyword limits? Thanks, Nick P.S Apologies if this has been asked before or if I've missed some documentation, I had a quick search but couldn't find a similar question!
