Multi- language URL best practices
-
we have two different content perlanguage (Fr. EN )) they are not Duplicated and they are completly different. what is better for the URL a language sub domain or a folder fr.mycompany.com or mycompany.com/fr/
-
I think there is no easy answer as both have advantages and disadvantages. Rand discusses the different options here: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/international-seo-where-to-host-and-how-to-target-whiteboard-friday
I think this is a good start, and from there you will have to make up your mind. We use fr.mydomain.com, and I am happy with the set-up, as it gives you a better URL structure with less sub folders, making the site more easily indexable.
-
I prefer to use mycompany.com / fr / if there is a common point of mycompany.com, although the language is different.
If eachcontent is different, perhaps you would use the issue within the subdomain
I'm thinking about the relevance transfer of subdomains and subfolders.
Regards.

the country domain cant determine the languauge for example in canada they speak both frensh and english ,so we cant determine the language form the top level domain
-
If I were you, I would try to apply for mycompany.fr ( for france focus website ), in france peoples are more likelly to click in results which have .FR
and another domain name focus in english , as you said: mycompany.com
My opinion.

Redirect_to in URLs?
I've never seen this before. I'm assuming that it's not SEO friendly and that these should be 301s or 302s instead? http://ksa-beta.motory.com/ar/login/?redirect_to=http://ksa-beta.motory.com/ar/cars-for-sale-search/results/central/riyadh/ford/explorer/2010/ford-explorer-2010-1038353 http://ksa-beta.motory.com/ar/login/?redirect_to=http://ksa-beta.motory.com/ar/account/my-saved-searches/

Which URL structure holds the best SEO value?
Hello Community! We are rewriting URLs to better rank and provide better visual usability to our visitors. Would it be better to serve a URL that looks like this: www.domain.com/category-subcategory or www.domain.com/category/subcategory Please note the slight difference--the 2nd URL calls out a category that has a subcategory under it. Would it give us more value? Does it make a difference? Thanks in advance!

Special characters in URL
Hi There, We're in the process of changing our URL structure to be more SEO friendly. Right now I'm struggling to find a good way to handle slashes that are part of a targeted keyword. For example, if I have a product page and my product title is "1/2 ct Diamond Earrings in 14K Gold" which of the following URLs is the right way to go if I'm targeting the product title as the search keyword? example.com/jewelry/1-2-ct-diamond-earrings-in-14k-gold example.com/jewelry/12-ct-diamond-earrings-in-14k-gold example.com/jewelry/1_2-ct-diamond-earrings-in-14k-gold example.com/jewelry/1%2F2-ct-diamond-earrings-in-14k-gold Thanks!

Changing .html to .asp in URLs
Hi Mozzers, I have a question. The webmaster of a client of mine needs to make changes to some files which will effect the URL's. Essentially everything is staying the same but the end of the URL will change from .html to .asp. This is because the site will be dynamically loading content (perhaps from a database) (i.e. latest news to come from their blog etc..) In order to do this we would need to change the filenames of the whole website. (i.e. personnel.html would become personel.asp). Changing URLs can harm indexation but a small change to the end - would Google drop these pages? A 301 redirect is not possible from old URL to new. What impact would this have on Rankings? Thanks Gareth
