Wrong Page is Ranking
-
My client is an Ecommerce reseller of a few major scooter brands. We currently rank fifth for a particular brand name but our main brand page isn't the one that ranks. Instead, it's a product page.
The main brand page has an A rating from Moz for the desired keyword phrases. Neither page has any backlinks. Any ideas on why our main brand page would be outranked by a product page? What could we do to change this?

Moosa,
is right your product page might have better social sharing or CTR on your product page you will rank higher then your brand’s page
You will want to be sure your brand’s page has good relevant content at least 2000 works of content regarding the brand and information users will want when looking for a scooter of that brand
Think your product page must have a lot of good scooter info.
I use scribe http://scribecontent.com/

To check the pages this will tell you the links your own sites links count as well.
Then check the rank using Moz rank tracker

When you work with an ecommerce website with thousands of pages, this is common! I would simply advice you to check and fix 2 to 3 things and wait for the next crawl for the magic to happen!
- Double check the On-Page SEO of the desired page and see if there is anything important that is missing and letting the product page to rank over main brand’s page.
- Try to build some quick authority links to the main brand’s page... some time the wrong page can rank because of better links coming to that page instead of the desired one!
- Market the desired page socially because if the product page is active socially then chances are it will rank better the then page you are trying to rank that have less social interaction!
- Try to pass some link from the ranked page to the desired page and this will signal Google that the main brad’s page is more important because the page that is already ranking is itself linking back to the brand’s page.
Hope this helps!

Yes this is not a bad thing your talking about ranking for a keyword that is the same & the name of one of your product's? The page ranking the highest for this is your "product page"
"brand page has an A rating from Moz for the desired keyword phrases. Neither page has any backlinks. "
If Neither page has any backlinks as you said so your home & product page have no back links.
Then good gob writing about your product as you have more relevant info about the scooter product on the product page then your home page.
When you get links your home page will get more then any other page this is normal then you will see things change.
Hope this was of help,
Thomas

Hi Matthew,
There's a couple ways to get the ball rolling on your brand page ranking rather than your product page.
The best way to change this is to market your brand name page on the web. Here's a few suggestions:
Onsite changes:
1. Have breadcrumbs enabled. This gives your brand page a link on every single product page associated with that brand name with the appropriate anchor text.
2. If you have a blog, link to that page whenever that brand is mentioned in a post. This gives the page some more pagerank and anchor text occurrences with that particular brand name.
3. Link to brand name page throughout site where appropriate in a non-spammy way (ex. navigation, footer navigation, category pages, etc.)
Offsite changes:
1. Increase your incoming links to that particular page. Reach out friendly and relevant sites/blogs and try to have them list your page as a reference for a retailer of that brand name.
2. Increase your social engagement to that page. Research and reach out to people talking about that brand on social media using your moz tools. You can connect with people who have used those products and have them visit your page, and webmasters who visit your page may link to it as well.

Why does keyword fluctuate in Google - I.E rank 48 - 13 - not ranked
Hello, I would like some advice on Google ranking, my site sportingdesires had a few keywords rank and now their not ranked for those keywords. Am still in the process of on-page and am not too bothered about them ranking high, more of a curiosity I suppose. am not expecting them to reach any where near top due to tough competition. Am just starting from top of website down to individual products ( this will take about 10 years lol ) sorting out seo issues. then will concentrate on link building & content engagement maybe i over optimised the page take a look at AC Milan club shop for example Kindest Regards, ste

Updated page not ranking.
Hi Guys. Bit flummoxed by this. I've recently updated our Mid year diaries page to be this years mid year products. i.e) Diaries that go from 2015-16 not 2014-15. Last year we rank really well for the search term 'mid year diaries 14-15'. All i've done is update the page to be focused on 2015-16 diaries, but when i type in 'mid year diaries 15-16' it's no where to be seen in the SERP. Even our home page is ranking higher! I'm really puzzled about this, nothings changed apart from the year! The only reason I can think of is that Google is reading the file name of the images which are related to lasts years products? For example the file name might say mid year diary 2014-15. Do you think this is what's effecting us? Very puzzling 😕 I've submitted it through Webmaster tool btw 🙂 Isaac.

Google Is Ranking the Wrong Page
Howdy Folks- I have a case where Google is ranking the wrong page for a couple of different keywords. The home page is: http://healthtn.com Most notably, we're trying to optimize the home page for "Tennessee Health Insurance" but the below page is what continually ranks for it, and does so very poorly. We used to be page two with the home page, now we are page four and it ranks the following page. http://healthtn.com/tennessee/health-insurance/student I have started directing our Internal Linking to reflect the correct anchor text but succeeded in losing ranking for the term, but am still ranking the wrong page. Any thoughts or help would be much appreciated!

Page rank question
Hi all, pretty standard SEO question that I'm sure you are all getting asked day in, day out... the following page: http://www.3wisemonkeys.co.uk/dvd/portable-dvd-player-car/ It's targetting keywords "portable dvd", "portable DVD player", "portable DVD players" & "portable dvd player for car". The page gets a grade A via Moz analytics On-page grader for the keywords. We have incoming links and I believe the page is structured correctly with all meta tags, H1 etc and tried not too overload the tags with keywords. We have the keywords in the URL etc. We are still stuck on page 2 for all phrases. Any thoughts or suggestions as to what we are doing wrong please? Any help would be great.

Page Speed
Google recommends a page load speed of 1.4 seconds, is it recommended to have that page speed for every page on the site, or just the landing pages. Is there a tool that will check the load speed of every page on a site and report the slow pages? The free online tools only check one page at a time.

No index parts of a page?
Little bit of an odd question this, but how would one go about getting Google to not index certain content on a page? I'm developing an online store for a client and for a few of the products they will be stocking they will be using the manufacturers specs and descriptions. These descriptions and specs, therefore, will not be unique as they will be also used by a number of other websites. The title tag, onpage h1 etc will be fine for the seo of the actual pages (with backlinks, of course) so the impact of google not counting the description should be slight. I'm sure this can be done but for the life of me I cannot remember how. Thanks Carl

Missing meta descriptions on indexed pages, portfolio, tags, author and archive pages. I am using SEO all in one, any advice?
I am having a few problems that I can't seem to work out.....I am fairly new to this and can't seem to work out the following: Any help would be greatly appreciated 🙂 1. I am missing alot of meta description tags. I have installed "All in One SEO" but there seems to be no options to add meta descriptions in portfolio posts. I have also written meta descriptions for 'tags' and whilst I can see them in WP they don't seem to be activated. 2. The blog has pages indexed by WP- called Part 2 (/page/2), Part 3 (/page/3) etc. How do I solve this issue of meta descriptions and indexed pages? 3. There is also a page for myself, the author, that has multiple indexes for all the blog posts I have written, and I can't edit these archives to add meta descriptions. This also applies to the month archives for the blog. 4. Also, SEOmoz tells me that I have too many links on my blog page (also indexed) and their consequent tags. This also applies to the author pages (myself ). How do I fix this? Thanks for your help 🙂 Regards Nadia

Some of my pages are ranking for terms which I want other pages to rank for. What can I do to effectively switch the ranking?
Some of the pages are ranking for terms I have optimised other pages for. The pages which are ranking are quite rightly falling, because they aren't optimised for the terms they're showing for. However, I have pages which are optomised for those terms. How do I switch the SERPS to the page I want?
